Frequently asked questions

›How good is the result?

Good for letters, reports, contracts, invoices and notes: it keeps the text with its font, size and color, headings, bold and italic, lists, simple tables, two-column pages, headers and footers, and the page size. For forms, slides or any PDF you want to look exactly the same, choose the "Same lines as the original" layout. Drawings and charts made of lines and curves are not reproduced yet, so always review the result.

›Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. When a page is a scanned image, or its text cannot be read (some PDFs show text that cannot even be copied), Foldyo reads it with text recognition (OCR) inside your browser; nothing is uploaded. Choose the document language first. It is slower than a normal PDF and can make mistakes with blurry scans, so review the result.

›Are the images kept?

Yes. Images are placed where they are on the page; when there is text beside them, the text wraps around them. In scans that already carry text, seals, signatures and logos are kept as images. Very large or unusual images may be left out, and Foldyo tells you.

›Are headers, footers, page numbers and colors kept?

Yes. Text repeated at the top or bottom of most pages goes into the real header and footer of the Word document, and the page number becomes a field that updates by itself. Text colors and rectangular backgrounds (such as shaded table cells) are kept; gradients, drawings and background images are not.

›Which programs open the file?

The result is a standard .docx file, the format used by Microsoft Word and supported by other editors such as LibreOffice and Google Docs.

›Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. The limit is 50 MB and password-protected PDFs are not supported.
